cormo info

In answer to your questions, I wanted to post this link to the American Cormo Sheep Assoc.
Here's what they say about the sheep:
What is Cormo?? The American Cormo is a new scientific sheep breed. I.K. Downie of Tasmania was the driving force behind the creation of the Cormo breed. The Cormo Breed is a one-time crossing of Tasmanian stud Corriedale rams on 1200 selected superfine Saxon Merino ewes. This was the beginning of the development of the Cormo breed. The result -- 1/4 Lincoln, 1/4 Australian Merino, and 1/2 Superfine Saxon Merino - is fast becoming one of the best wool producing breeds in the sheep industry..
Foxfire Fiber, located in western Massachusetts, raises Cormo sheep and sells wonderful fiber blends, including the cormo / alpaca that I am using on the spindle. Very, very soft stuff!

JJ, Thank you for the cross reference and description! My cousin gave me cormo last month and I've been enjoying spinning the black but didn't realize why. :-) It has a very soft, yet tough quality - if that make sense. She gave me some white cormo also, that batch has more of the grease left in since she prefers spinning in the grease. Haven't tried it, yet.
