I Crave Your Opinions
Can you all help me make a decision?
My sister is a knitting fiend, and I want to make her some handspun yarn for her birthday. She likes rich colors and jewel tones. So I dyed this silk tussah last week....I don't have much, about 1.5 oz. I blended some of it with some dyed wool and Navajo plied it for a sample. The question is.....should I spin a blend, and end up with more of a sock yarn with a slightly more complex, heathered look, or should I keep the brilliance of the colors and spin the silk alone for a laceweight yarn?
I will be taking this project with me on a trip this weekend.....so please answer soon! :-)

Does your sister like wearing bright clothes, or a bit more subdued? Each has merit. I lean towards the bright colors in the silk but you would get more yardage with a blend. If you gifted her with spun silk what do you think she'd like to make with it? I can envision a summery cap-sleave top but unfortunately you probably don't have enough silk.
That's the thing...I don't know what she would make with it. I know that she is a confirmed sock knitter, but I don't think she's done much lace...I haven't seen her wear many brights with the exception of a winey red.
thanks for the thought-provoking reply, Wanda!
I'd go with the wool blend yarn since she's a confirmed sock knitter. They'd be soft and very pretty
Yea, I'd go with the wool blend too, esp. since she is a sock knitter...the colors are really nice! What a nice gift she will be getting!
Oh what a lovely thought silk wool blend Soft socks definetly, tho I really like the idea of jewelled bright colors but thats me. I think your sister would like it with wool...
Blend it with the wool, she will have many choices that way. The colors are lovely blended.
Okay, it seems to be unanimous. I will blend with the wool. The colors really are pretty that way and I get to play with the fiber more. Yay!
Thank you all!
